Cat Smith, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Democracy, responding to the YouGov poll on Voter ID which has found the proposed new rules will be felt greatest in the North of England where one in 14 people are without suitable photo ID cards and as many as one million over 50s lack acceptable photo ID cards, said:
“It doesn’t matter how the Government tries to dress it up, voter ID is a discriminatory policy which will disenfranchise millions of voters.
“The Conservatives must ditch this undemocratic policy which threatens to reverse decades of democratic progress.”
