The Labour Party would overtake the Conservatives in Bath if a general election were held today, according to new polling.
The first major, independent, constituency-level survey of voters to be carried out since new electoral boundaries were confirmed predicts a significant increase in Labour majority government nationally and a significant increase in the party’s vote share in Bath. The same data estimates that the Tories would lose more than a third of their votes in the city, leaving them in third place with just 18% of support here.

Bath Labour Party Chair Olivia Copley said: “The Labour Party has grown massively here in recent years and we now have around 1,000 members in Bath. We know from the literally thousands of conversations we have on the doorstep with
residents across the city that people are increasingly frustrated by the current crop of politicians nationally and locally, and they’re turning to us as an alternative. It’s really encouraging to have hard data to back that up.”

YouGov’s poll comes eight months after the Labour Party overtook the Conservatives to become the official opposition on Bath & North East Somerset Council. In the same May 2023 local elections, the Tories failed to elect a single councillor in Bath for the second time in a row and retained just three representatives in North East
Somerset
