Local campaigner Mike Davies has been selected as Labour’s candidate for Bath in the next general election. The thirty-year-old Bristol councillor has a strong record on housing and the environment. In 2016, he beat Green and Liberal Democrat competition to win his seat for Labour for the first time in fifteen years.

His passion for affordable housing has been expressed in his work as a councillor in Bristol and he recognises the need for balanced communities. He has campaigned on air quality and green issues, acting as an advocate for sustainable transport. Mike says, “I know that in Bath we’re dealing with unaffordable housing, homelessness, air pollution and council cutbacks. As a cyclist and public transport user, I can see the inadequacy of current transport provision. These are all issues I’ve worked on tackling as a councillor and Bath deserves an advocate who can make a difference.”

Mike campaigned to remain in the 2016 referendum and supports a confirmatory referendum, in which he will again campaign to remain. Mike says, “I think the best relationship with the EU is the one we have now. We need to settle this issue in a fair, democratic way rather than the divisive approaches offered by the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.”

On a daily basis, he has seen the effects of cuts to public services that were implemented by Liberal Democrat and Conservative governments. Mike says, “Labour is offering a credible alternative government to give people hope after years of austerity and political crises. I look forward to getting out and speaking to the people of Bath about the challenges facing our country and community.”
